We are nearing the end of an extremely long journey.  There are many complications now.  Today, we will leave the hospital for what I hope is the last time.  From this point forward, James will be cared for by hospice nurses in our home.  James has fought a long, hard battle and his body just can't carry on anymore.

This photo was taken the weekend before James was diagnosed two years ago.
This illness has taken a toll on both of us.  The truth be told, we are better because of it.
The Lord used this illness to teach us what marriage is really all about.  He used this illness to draw us close to Him.  He used this illness to witness to lost souls and further the Kingdom of Heaven.
It is all for His Glory!

I thank each of you for joining us on this adventure.  It has been a blessing to have you along the way!
I ask you to join me in praying for James.  My prayer is God's total peace over James' body.  I pray James will be comfortable and pain free.  I pray when God calls him home, James will go running and kick up gold on the streets of Heaven leaving his useless shell of a body here and be healed!
We love you and thank you all for your support!

  1. I can only imagine what it will be like for our redhead in heaven. I bet he gets to hunt whenever he wants. I bet he will be a special light for our Lord.
You both have come a long, long way since we met you. I am so impressed with the battle that you both have fought bravely.
God promises our prayers will be answered on this side or the other. Hats off to a very special couple who have endured this nasty c word with dignity and faith.
James Abell,we love you so much and are so very glad that you came in to our office with that mischevious little grin. We came to love you and looked forward to seeing you everyday. God bless you redhead. God loves you and we love you both! Bill and Deb

  4. Amy and James, I want to share with you the words to a song that I pray will put a smile on your face. It truly comforted my heart during my battle with cancer. I pray it will for both of you as well.

    From Heaven’s Point of View

Today I faced a mountain that I had no strength to climb
For the struggle of this journey left me weak both in body and in mind.
Where I stand, to the peak, is a distance on my own I cannot reach,
So this journey of a thousand steps begins, right here on my knees.

Soon I’ll soar like an eagle, high on wings of grace
Far into the heavens where I can almost see God’s face
Rising in His splendor to highest I never knew
What once looked like a mountain is just a hill from heaven’s point of view.

I may face things tomorrow, I can’t comprehend today
Circumstances so uncertain, makes it hard to find the strength to pray
But I’m living in the promise, “I’ll never leave you, I will always see you through”
So, what’s this mountain to an eagle flying high, from heaven’s point of view.

Soon I’ll soar like an eagle, high on wings of grace
Far into the heavens where I can almost see God’s face
Rising in His splendor to highest I never knew
What once looked like a mountain is just a hill from heaven’s point of view.

God bless you both. There's no doubt Jesus is with you right now to help James on his journey home. The joy of meeting our Lord Jesus Christ will soon belong to James. I'm sure you will feel James' joy in your heart sweet Amy! You have indeed experienced a great love that you will forever hold dear, and one day you will see James again and rejoice in the reunion~
Angels Watching Over You Both Always. Take the Hand of God and hold on tight, He Loves you both and will never forsake you!
    With Love...

  6. God bless you James and your family! I remember you as the new kid in 8th grade English and then the troublesome duck hunter, always smiling and telling some crazy joke; then the crazy black Friday shopper in 2012! Love ya always!

  8. Sweet Amy your Mom is a dear friend and coworker of mine. I just wanted to tell you how much you have taught me through sharing the journey that you and James have been going through. The faith that you speak during this most difficult time in your life is a mighty testimony of the love, grace and mercy that our Lord has poured out on your life. May the comfort of our dear Lord continue to uplift you and surround you as James continues his journey home to dwell in the house of our Lord throughout eternity as we know this is not the end of his journey but the beginning. Love and prayers for you and your family. Lisa Sherman

  9. I've been following your blog for awhile now as I went to school with James for several years. I've always been hesitant to post anything (it seems weird since I haven't seen him since 7th grade or so), but I couldn't keep from commenting today.

May God bless you and give you both comfort and peace, may his love surround you and lift you up. My heart goes out to both of you. Your family will continue to be in my prayers.

  10. Hi Amy...I went to school at CCS with James way back in the day and heard of how terrible all this is. I'm in Conroe this weekend and wanted to come visit James. I hope he is in little to no pain and remains that way until he goes home to be with the Lord. Please tell him I said hi and he is in my prayers. If there is anything I can do, please let me know! Thanks so much, Abby Fletcher
